Course objectives To enlighten participants about the theories, procedures & approaches related to film & TV production.
Course outcomes After attending this session, participant will be able to approach the making of film & TV production effectively by applying the methods & procedures learnt.
Course methodology Lectures, practical sessions & film screenings.
DAY 1
- Basic theories related to: Mise-en-scene; Mise-en-shot; Cinematography; Editing; Sound.
- A general idea of film production for: Documentary; Feature; TV; Animation; Shorts; Music Video.
- Understanding screenwriting: Idea; Premise; Theme; Story; Treatment/Structure; Screenplay; Shooting Script.
- Foundations of Visual Structure: Semiotics; Archetypes; Gestalt; Binary Opposition.
DAY 2
- Story treatment: Genre & Auteur approaches.
- Script Structure for: Feature/TV Drama; Documentary
- Writing the project proposal for documentary.
- Film screenings & analysis (Feature/shorts/documentary).
FACILITATOR
HASSAN ABD MUTHALIB is a self-taught artist, designer, animator, film director and writer. Among his popular works are the animated Sang Kancil series for which he is recognised as a pioneer in animation in Malaysia. He has also been involved in animated film and TV commercials as well as writing and directing public service films and documentaries. He has achieved a number of firsts in the animation industry, among them: creating the first animated sequences for a feature film as well as writing and directing Malaysia’s first animated cinema feature. He is at present involved in lecturing as well as presenting academic papers on film and animation locally and overseas. Many of the papers have been published in books and magazines. He is currently the Director of Darul Digital Film & Animation School and the President of the Animation Society of Malaysia.
